Architecture & Design

One Thousand Museum represents the culmination of Zaha Hadid's architectural vision. The building's defining feature is its continuous exoskeleton—a structural system of curved concrete columns that runs from the ground floor to the 15th floor before transitioning to 4,800 glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels that wrap the tower's exterior.

This engineering breakthrough, featured on PBS's "Impossible Builds: The Scorpion Tower," eliminates interior structural columns entirely. Residents benefit from completely open floor plans with unobstructed views in every direction—no beams or load-bearing walls interrupt the living spaces.

The organic, flowing lines of the exoskeleton have earned the building nicknames including "The Scorpion Tower" and "The Scorpion in the Sky," as the structural ribs evoke the protective shell of that resilient creature.

About Zaha Hadid

Dame Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2004) and a two-time recipient of the RIBA Stirling Prize. Her landmark projects include the London Aquatics Centre, Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, MAXXI Museum in Rome, and Guangzhou Opera House. One Thousand Museum stands as her only residential tower in the Americas and one of her final completed works.
