The Surf Club: A Miami Legend Since 1930

The Surf Club's story begins on a winter afternoon in 1929, when tire magnate Harvey Firestone sailed up the Florida coast with Carl Fisher and Irving Collins. Spotting a pristine stretch of beachfront, they envisioned a private club that would become the social epicenter of Miami's elite.

The club opened on New Year's Eve 1930, designed by architect Russell Pancoast in a Mediterranean Revival style. For decades, The Surf Club hosted legendary parties and attracted luminaries including Elizabeth Taylor, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and Frank Sinatra. The original cabana row and ballroom—where black-tie galas once defined Miami society—have been meticulously restored and remain at the heart of the development today.

What Buyers Should Know About Four Seasons Surfside

Rental Restrictions: Unlike many Miami condos that allow short-term rentals, Four Seasons Surfside requires a 12-month minimum lease with a maximum of two rentals per year. This maintains an owner-occupied atmosphere and limits transient traffic—a significant consideration for buyers seeking a residential rather than investment-oriented building.

Four Seasons Hotel Program: Owners of select hotel residences can participate in the Four Seasons rental program, earning income when not using their units. Private residence owners are not part of this program but enjoy full access to all hotel amenities and services.

Included in HOA: Four Seasons Surfside maintenance fees include basic cable, high-speed internet, valet parking, water, gas, sewer, and trash removal—more comprehensive than most Miami condos, which typically exclude these utilities.

Four Seasons Surfside Floor Plans

The Surf Club condos range from 1,800 to 7,800 square feet across 51 distinct floor plans. All residences feature private elevator entries, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and views of either the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay, or both. Select penthouses include private rooftop pools, interior Zen gardens, and staff quarters.

Standard finishes include honed vein-cut Italian travertine flooring, floor-to-ceiling impact-resistant glass, and up to 20-foot ceilings in select units. Kitchens feature Boffi high-lacquer cabinetry with Corian countertops, Miele and Sub-Zero appliances including double ovens and wine storage. Bathrooms include fixtures by Waterworks, Dada, Duravit, and Dornbracht. All residences are delivered furniture-ready with pre-wired shade pockets for motorized window treatments.

Art Deco interiors, amber lighting, and white-jacketed service transport guests to another era.

Kids for All Seasons program available for families. Dedicated Director of Residences and residential concierge team.

Four Seasons Surfside Architecture

Richard Meier balanced the historic Surf Club's Mediterranean Revival character with his signature white modernist aesthetic. The two 12-story residential towers—positioned north and south of the restored clubhouse—feature glass curtain walls that maximize ocean views while framing the original 1930s structure.

Meier's design emphasizes seamless indoor-outdoor living: floor-to-ceiling glass walls open to deep terraces (up to 18 feet in penthouses), blurring the boundary between residence and oceanfront. The interplay of white surfaces, natural light, and Atlantic views creates the luminous quality that defines Meier's residential work—echoing his acclaimed Perry Street and Charles Street towers in Manhattan's West Village.

About the Architect: Richard Meier

Richard Meier (born 1934) is an American architect known for his white, geometric designs rooted in Le Corbusier's early Modernism. He received the Pritzker Prize in 1984 at age 49—the youngest recipient at that time—and shortly after was commissioned to design the Getty Center in Los Angeles, which opened in 1997 to international acclaim.

Meier was a founding member of the "New York Five," a group of architects who advocated a return to Modernist rationalism in the 1960s and 70s. His major works include the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, the Jubilee Church in Rome, and his acclaimed Manhattan residential towers at 173 Perry Street, 176 Perry Street, and 165 Charles Street. Four Seasons Surfside marks his most significant residential project in Florida.
